Our journey begins in Lima the capital of Peru, where you will experience the rich colonial heritage, breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and delicious cuisine.

After leaving Lima, we will arrive in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In the Sacred Valley we wander the archaeological sites of Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, Chincheros, Inca agricultural center of Moray and the Pre-Columbian salt mines of Maras.  We visit a women’s textile cooperative to learn about the indigenous natural dying process that give the textiles their lively colors. We will also tour the studio of famous ceramic artist Pablo Seminario, recipient of the UNESCO award for preserving the ancient arts.

The highlight of our trip is a visit to Machu Picchu, which is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and the spiritual center of the Inca Empire. In Machu Picchu we will explore its magnificent terraces, the temple of the Sun and the Moon, the Intihuatana, the Inca baths and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds it. There will also be a visit to the Pisac Ruins and the city of Pisac, which is best known for its Sunday market and handicrafts.

During our final days, we will explore the city of Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will walk through history on the cobblestone streets lined with Inca walls and visit the Cathedral, the Temple of the Sun, the Central Market, and the artsy neighborhood of San Blas among other historical sites.

Traveling to a country like Peru really helped broaden my ‘world-view’ to help see that people are people no matter where you go.
